A recent study shows the top 10 list for best work-life balance. The study, conducted by Kisi, looked at data from a hundred cities around the world to determine the best and worst places to live based on this balance. So, which city came out on top? And which North American cities made the list?

The best cities for work-life balance in 2022:

1. Oslo, Norway

2. Bern, Switzerland

3. Helsinki, Finland

4. Zurich, Switzerland

5. Copenhagen, Denmark

6. Geneva, Switzerland

7. Ottawa, Canada

8. Sydney, Australia

9. Stuttgart, Germany

10. Munich, Germany

Only one North American city made the top 10 best work-life balance list.

In fact, the highest-ranking North American city was Ottawa, Canada at number 7. European cities dominated the top of the list with Oslo coming in at number 1 followed by Bern and Helsinki. Switzerland was represented by a whopping three spots on the top ten list, with Germany boasting two cities in the top ten.

The first United States city that appears on this list comes in at a much lower ranking, number 32. Ranking anywhere between 32 and 41, are US cities Seattle, Portland, Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, Boston, San Francisco, and Washington.

So, what makes these 10 European cities so great?

According to Kisi’s data, it comes down to a combination of factors including shorter work weeks, more vacation days, and better access to child care and parental leave.
